New HP Latex Printer purchased for Graphic Solutions
2010-05-11

During March 2010 this new wide format digital printer arrived.  This machine has improved the service the graphics division can offer to their much valued clients.  Previously a full solvent printer was used, the ink was highly toxic and the printer had to be operated in a sealed room.  The manufacturing process also took much longer as the printed vinyl took long to dry (or flash-off).  Overall the new printer will help the Graphics division to turn out decals quicker and safer while still maintaining high quality standards.

Mask kits: This way up / Flying 101

Flying 101:
During December 2009 Graphic solutions received a last minute order to manufacture the mask kit for the painting of Kulula’s new 737-800 Flying 101 livery. This mask kit had to be couriered to Ireland where the aircraft was painted. Over 250 meters of vinyl at 1.2 meters wide was used to manufacture this kit on a skeleton staff. It was a record downtime for the shop. The job, that would normally take our full team 3 weeks to complete, was completed in 2 weeks with 5 working days to spare. Pictures of the humorous livery has attracted allot of attention on the internet and has been forwarded by thousands.

This Way Up:
Shortly after completing the mask kit for Flying 101, Kulula’s second 737-800 arrived in the Mega Coatings hangar to be transformed into yet another Laugh Out Loud livery. The mask kit for this aircraft was also manufactured by Graphic Solutions. The mirror-like paintjob was completed by Mega Coatings’ expert re-furbishing team and set the tongues wagging the second it was tugged out of the hangar.

Towards the end of 2009 Graphic solutions received some exciting news when a representative of S.A. Express arrived in our shop with a large white model aircraft and a scale drawing of their new livery. The designs were scaled and adapted to fit the aircraft’s size and shape, and the painting began.
